Work starts soon to replace obsolete traffic signals with new, more reliable and energy-efficient equipment at a busy crossroads in Bognor Regis.
The work is required because the existing traffic signals, at the Chichester Road/Town Cross Avenue/ Bersted Street crossroads, are reaching the end of their lifespan, with replacement parts difficult to source. The new lights will utilise the latest LED technology, which will improve the signals’ reliability, reduce maintenance and save energy.
Temporary traffic lights and a road closure will be in operation during the works, which start on Monday, 10 May and will last for six weeks, subject to factors such as extreme weather.
Bersted Street will be closed from 10 May until 28 May. This is for the safety of both the public and workforce as there is insufficient space for safe working under temporary lights.
A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the work but please bear in mind this project will lead to long-term improvements.
“If possible, road users are advised to seek alternative routes, particularly during peak periods.”
The scheme is estimated to cost about £110,000 and is part of the County Council’s multi-million-pound Highway, Transport and Planning Delivery Programme, details of which can be viewed online
