South East Coast Ambulance Service has launched a campaign reminding people how to use 999.
Over the last few years, there’s been significant pressure on resources across the UK to reach those most in need.
In a video posted on social media, South East Coast Ambulance Service explains how they triage the calls and which ones they prioritise.
Dan Logan, SECAMB's Emergency Operations Manager, says, "When the calls come in, they are triaged by 999 call handlers and given a priority based on the urgency of the symptoms."
đźš‘When 999 calls come in, serious and life-threatening conditions will be our highest priority. Other callers may have to wait significantly longer. We urge you not to call us back on 999, because we need to keep those lines clear for medical emergencies. #HelpUsHelpYou pic.twitter.com/DdJ9Tm3EkD
