Compton Woman reunited with her handbag after 15 years

The blast from the past bag was found in a nearby wood.

A woman from Compton who had her handbag stolen 15 years ago has finally been reunited with the missing item.

Jill Dennison was training for a fundraising trip to the Himalaya's in 2006 when the bag was taken.

She'd been raising the funds for St Wilfrid's Hospice where she worked and left it in the car covered by a blanket.

Jill told V2 that her whole life was in that bag, including her Filofax, credit cards, house keys and mobile phone. At the time the theft left her mortified and worried that someone would use the keys to let themselves into her house.

Fortunately that never happened, but the bag lay dormant for 15 years in a woods nearby to Compton.

It was only on Thursday this week that she was contacted by the person who found her bag and called the phone number on her ID card from the hospice.

The number still worked after 15 years and Jill picked up the bag on Friday morning, with most of it's contents untouched apart from her purse.

She was relieved to finally have closure over the missing handbag, although it's unlikely that it will see much use again given over a decade of damage to the exterior. Surprisingly though, the leather had remained soft after all this time!
