Engineer a bright future with an apprenticeship at GTR and Chichester College

Chichester College has teamed up with leading composite engineering manufacturer GTR to offer young people in Sussex the opportunity to get a head start with a career in engineering.

GTR (Global Technologies Racing) have 10 composite technician apprenticeships available for anyone aged 16 or over, giving them the chance to work in a high-paced, engineering environment in Fontwell, West Sussex.

Starting as a composite technician apprentice is a fantastic entry into a career which could take you all the way from the workshop to a Formula One race team!

At GTR, apprentices will work on a variety of projects across industries which include motorsport, aerospace and automotive production.

GTR is a leading composite manufacturer in motorsport, working closely with prestigious clients to supply structural parts, such as body work and engine components, for a number of Formula One teams.

Helen Loftus, Interim Principal at Chichester College, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for any young person who has a passion for technology or motorsport.

“We have a strong relationship with GTR and a number of apprentices have recently completed this bespoke apprenticeship with great success.

“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to learn while you earn – and give you the work ready skills you’ll need to thrive in your chosen career.

“We are very proud to be working with GTR to give young people in our local area an incredible chance to change their lives through learning.”

The first group of composite technician apprentices have reached the end of their level 3 courses, and will remain at GTR either in long-term employment or progressing on to their level 4 (HNC equivalent) apprenticeships and ongoing employment with GTR.

They include Keiran Denyer, who said: “During the three years of my apprenticeship, I have progressively learned about composite engineering but also I have developed my own skill set, my own personal confidence and my desire to continue further into higher education.

“The apprenticeship route has proven a better option for me as I can earn whilst I learn, and the support given by CCG and GTR has helped me complete my academic studies”

Lisa Nicholson, Group HR Manager at GTR, added: “We at GTR are immensely proud of the achievements of our Level 3 Apprentices and the quality of their learned skills and personal development during the last three years, and in such challenging times.

“GTR is committed to offering career starting opportunities for dedicated candidates in the local area, with the ongoing support from Chichester College, we are excited to be recruiting again for our Apprenticeship programme in 2022.”

The 10 apprentices will start at GTR in September 2022, and will work towards their level 3 apprenticeship – that’s the equivalent of three A-levels.

Applications are now open, and the closing date to apply is Friday 27 May. Applicants should have a minimum of three GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 (C) or above including English, maths and science.
