Half a million pound has been allocated to enhance the Sunken Gardens in Bognor Regis

A project to modernise the Sunken Gardens in Bognor Regis has been given the go-ahead.

The exciting project was given the green light at a meeting of Arun District Council’s Full Council last week. The scheme is designed to enhance the quality of the landscape, whilst retaining the features within the existing footprint of the site.

The design proposals will include removing the existing play area and relocating a new play facility within the space, creating a new southern entrance to the existing gardens and refurbishment of the planting borders.

It’s hoped to also incorporate new contemporary seating areas within the designs. Funding of £500,000 has been allocated for the project, which includes consultant fees.

Councillor Samantha-Jayne Staniforth, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services at Arun District Council said: “The sunken gardens are loved by many, but sadly anti-social behaviour has led to this area being under-used in past years.

“The refurbishment will enhance the area hugely and I hope provide a relaxing area for local residents to sit and be. I am delighted to tell you this project is underway after so many years and I look forward to sharing with you the finished project.”
