The funeral of Dame Patricia Routledge is being held at Chichester Cathedral today.
Family, friends, and fans will gather to say their final farewells to the much-loved actress.
Dame Patricia, who died last month aged 96, was best known for her role as Hyacinth Bucket in the TV comedy Keeping Up Appearances.
Born in Birkenhead in 1929, she began her career on stage, training at Liverpool University before joining the Bristol Old Vic. Her talent quickly shone through, leading to a long and celebrated career in theatre, television, and film.
On screen, she became a household name for her impeccable comic timing and commanding presence. Beyond Keeping Up Appearances, she starred in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates and appeared in numerous dramatic roles that showed her remarkable range.
Her love of the stage never faded. She performed regularly at the Chichester Festival Theatre from 1969 onwards and lived in the city for the last two decades of her life.
Honoured with a Damehood in 2017 for services to theatre and charity, Dame Patricia Routledge leaves behind a legacy of wit, warmth, and timeless performances — a true national treasure.
