New campaign to encourage people to go on days out in Adur launched

Adur District Council has launched the campaign to remind residents and visitors alike that they don't need to go far this summer to enjoy a varied and fun-packed day out with a huge range of attractions.

In addition the Council is pledging its support for the hard-pressed leisure, retail and hospitality sectors of the district which have suffered from the lockdowns of the last year and a half. It is hoped that by increasing numbers of visitors it will help to boost the local economy.

Over the next five weeks the Council will be showcasing five separate days out, covering the entire district from the downs to sea, and across the towns and villages. While each would make for a busy day some might choose to select one or two activities to enjoy.

Among the activities to be listed and detailed are:

  • Countryside and river walks
  • Water sports
  • Cycling
  • Shopping
  • Historic site visits
  • Fishing
  • Food and drink

Adur District Council's Executive member for Regeneration, Cllr Brian Boggis said:

“I'm really pleased that we are launching A Day Out In Adur. We obviously want to get a share of the staycation market but also remind people how much there is to see and do in our district which doesn't always get recognised. Indeed as a local myself I sometimes forget what we have to offer.

“I hope the A Day Out in Adur campaign in some small way also helps our businesses bounce back from the pandemic. We need them badly and will do all we can to support them.”

The five areas covered by the five week campaign starting next week are the Downs, Lancing, Soutwick, the Coast and Shoreham. With many traditional British holiday areas likely to be extremely busy as the country emerges from lockdown, the campaign will emphasise that many places in the district are “away from the beaten track.”

It will also highlight the good value for money available, many free activities, reasonably priced food outlets, cheap parking and good public transport links.
