Residents and visitors to Portsmouth are encouraged to share their views on plans for a travel and transport hub in Southsea.
The city council is in the early stages of considering enhancing the current transport facilities at Clarence Pier to create a transport hub.
They’ve launched a survey to find out what people want.
It’s also hoped that a hub would encourage more people to walk, cycle or take public transport, particularly for the first or last mile of people’s journeys. By offering more opportunities for people to travel in more sustainable and environmentally friendly ways, this could help improve air quality and reduce congestion related issues throughout Portsmouth.
At this stage, the council are exploring what may be possible, but this could include improved information and facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users, as well as more sustainable transport options like rental e-scooters and cycles.
Cllr Peter Candlish, Cabinet Member for Transport at Portsmouth City Council, said:
“We’re really keen to ask people their views about the idea of creating a travel and transport hub near Clarence Pier in this survey. At this early stage, we want to work with residents, businesses on the seafront, commuters, and visitors to understand what kind of travel options and facilities they want to see, to make sure whatever we plan meets their needs.”
This is a great opportunity for people to have their say through the online survey and help the council to shape future plans for a transport hub in Southsea. The survey will be open until midnight on Tuesday 24 September, and council staff will also be in the area to ask people for their views.
People can take part in the online survey by visiting https://www.research.net/r/ClarencePierMH.
Once the council has collated all the feedback from the survey, recommendations will be developed for councillors to consider further.
