Local kickboxing club needs new base

A kickboxing club in Littlehampton is on the brink of extinction after losing its current base due to new ownership.

Kaminari Kickboxing, which has been in Littlehampton for almost 10 years, used to operate out of Titan Storage, Riverside Industrial Estate. The club must now vacate the building due to unforeseen circumstances.

Kaminari Kickboxing is a not-for-profit organisation, which like most sports clubs across Sussex has been hit hard by the covid pandemic. This terrible news comes at a precious time when they are starting to rebuild.

Karl Lobley, 48, Social Media Manager for the gymn told V2 Radio that Kaminari Kickboxing is very important to the community. The philosophy is that of a totally inclusive family friendly club.

He went on to say that “We have many families that train with us and we’re proud that they have a unique space to do so. We have kids and adults with ADHD, autism and confidence issues come through our doors and gain massively from the positive and encouraging focus of our club and our head coach and founder Matt Robinson - Our gym is a sanctuary for many".

“Matt and our coaches give up on average 3 to 4 mornings and evenings a week to run Kaminari Kickboxing for the benefit of the local community and the surrounding areas. We even have people come to us from Bognor Regis”.

The coaches want the club to stay in Littlehampton as most of their clientele walk or ride their bicycles to get to there.

Karl said they would like somewhere that is permanent and where they can keep their equipment out, but he told V2 Radio that they are happy to look anywhere and to accept anywhere, as long as it means they can continue their work.

Karl added, “We desperately need to ensure our survival, after the impact Coronavirus has had on our fantastic club and now this shocking turn of events. We need the help of the community and its business leaders to help provide that.”

If you have a space or a venue that would be suitable for Kaminari Kickboxing, you can email them at info@teamkaminari.co.uk or call the team on 07920 100591.
