Local MP shares concerns over new development plans in Selsey

Chichester MP Gillian Keegan has stepped in to highlight community concerns around a planning application proposed at the land to the north of Park Lane in Selsey

Gillian has written to the Cabinet Member for Planning, Susan Taylor, regarding an application for 26 homes that, if built, would fall next to the Pagham Harbour Nature reserve.

Constituents in the area have raised concerns with the proposed site due to the potential environmental impact. Having reviewed the evidence the MP has asked the council for any plans they have to undertake a formal assessment and review the impact on the local environment in consultation with Natural England, a statutory planning consultee. In her letter, the MP also emphasised the importance of the area to wildlife, as it borders the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The MP also shared concerns with flooding, as the site in question is at a high risk of groundwater flooding.

Gillian’s letter follows on from her recent request for a wider review of the areas environmental status with Natural England. After the publication of the agencies assessment of the Chichester, Harbour Gillian wrote to the Area Director, James Seymour to ask if similar work is intended for the Manhood Peninsula.

At the time Gillian described the report into the Harbour “alarming” but went onto say she welcomed “the renewed sense of urgency to address the problems we face locally and the clear desire to work more collaboratively.”
