Women and families across Sussex are being encouraged to come forward and share their experiences of maternity and neonatal care as part of a major national investigation.
The review is examining the quality and safety of services provided to mothers and babies, with a particular focus on listening to the voices of those who have used them. Health leaders say personal experiences are a vital part of understanding what is working well, and what changes are needed to improve outcomes in the future.
Among the NHS organisations included in the investigation is University Hospitals Sussex. The trust runs a number of maternity and neonatal units across the county, including in Brighton, Worthing, Chichester and Haywards Heath.
The national review forms part of wider efforts to improve maternity safety across England, following a series of high-profile investigations into care standards in recent years. Those leading the process say hearing directly from women, partners and families is essential to building a clear picture of day-to-day care and identifying areas for improvement.
Families are being asked to share both positive and negative experiences, with assurances that all feedback will be treated sensitively. Contributions can help shape recommendations aimed at improving safety, staff training, communication and support for parents during pregnancy, birth and the early days of a baby’s life.
The findings of the investigation are expected to inform future changes to maternity and neonatal services, with the overall goal of ensuring safer, more consistent and compassionate care for families across Sussex and beyond.
