There's a new speed limit on the A24 coming into force - and work to make the changes starts tomorrow.

There's a new speed limit on the A24 coming into force - and work to make the changes starts tomorrow (Monday 17th January), meaning drivers will have to keep speedometers under 40 miles an hour - as speed limit are set to be reduced from 50mph.

It's in an effort to improve road safety across West Sussex, and it's reported to set West Sussex Highways back £75,000.

Work starts overnight on stretched of the A24 between Findon Road and the Findon Bypass and it's in response to concerns by the community, who repeatedly reported about the speeds of cars down that stretch of road, especially on the junctions of High Street, Cross Lane and Nepcote Lane.

A West Sussex Highways spokesperson said: “There’s a tendency for road users to misjudge the severity of the bends on the A24 Findon Bypass, given its dual carriageway layout, leading to significant braking.

“The speed limit change will encourage road users to drive more appropriately on the A24 Bypass and A24 Findon Road.

“It should also assist road users joining the A24 from High Street, Cross Lane, Nepcote and The Quadrangle as vehicle speeds may be better judged. Road users leaving the A24 Findon Bypass should also be assisted, particularly those turning right across the opposite carriageway.”
