Sussex Police say a major road in Chichester is back open after a tractor fire.

The A27 around Portfield Roundabout had to be closed for several hours after a tractor carrying bales caught fire.

The blaze broke out at approximately 10.30am on the A27 Chichester Bypass.

Fire crews from Bognor Regis, Chichester and Selsey all attended to get the blaze under control.

Hay was seen scattered across the road as well as large plumes of grey smoke whilst residents in the Portfield area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

Sussex Police also attended and tweeted at around 2pm that the road had reopened after a mass clear up.

There has been no reported injuries and no reported damage other than the hale bales.

Sussex Police are encouraging anyone who was in the area at the time of the fire that may have dashcam footage to get in touch.

The cause of the fire has not yet been announced.
