V2 Radio is the brand new radio station on the airwaves of Sussex.
At bang on 12 O'clock today (Monday 18th January 2021) the microphones were switched on and the team behind this exciting new radio station went live.
Home to some of West Sussex’s favourite radio presenters, the V2 Radio line-up will include Ian Crouch, Milly Luxford and Nick Hobbs. Available on-line, via the dedicated V2 app, on smart speakers and across Sussex on DAB digital radio, the new station will fill the gap in local coverage that was created by the demise of Spirit FM.
Spirit FM was purchased last year by Bauer Media and replaced with Greatest Hits Radio, leaving listeners without the local focus that Spirit FM had nurtured for almost quarter of a century. Knowing how valued Spirit was as a voice for local people, some of the presenters whose jobs were jettisoned as a consequence of the takeover vowed to launch a new station.
Initially focus will be on serving West Sussex, with ultimate growth to the whole of Sussex. V2 Radio’s appeal will be broad, passionate about highlighting local issues, news and events and the music mix will comprise familiar tunes from the last five decades.
Programmes will be hosted by a wealth of industry talent, including presenters with national and international broadcasting experience.
Founder Justin Cottrell said: “V2 Radio’s community ethos will be its beating heart.
Getting involved in local events, the arts and festivals, being visible through regular outside broadcasts and supporting local businesses and charities is central to what we want to do.”
The radio station is already getting the backing of some big names in the local area. The TV presenter Fred Dinenage, model Katie Price and singer Tom O'Dell have been in touch to wish the station well.
