Selsey Lifeboat has helped rescue three people in a boat after it started to take on water.

The coastguard received a Mayday call in the early hours of Monday morning.

A lifeboat from Bembridge and a coastguard helicopter were also called out.

The helicopter located the vessel 22 miles south of Selsey, and the water-stricken boat was towed to Chichester Harbour.

The Entrance to Chichester harbour was reached at 5.08am. Once inside the harbour, the boat was brought to an alongside tow for the transit to Sparkes marina. At 5.33am, the vessel was safely berthed alongside with the help of the Hayling Island Coastguard Rescue Team.

The Selsey Lifeboat departed Sparkes at 5:50 a.m. and returned to the station, arriving back at Selsey at 6:25 a.m.
