Sussex hospitals join in with Sussex ‘Week of Walk-ins’

It's to encourage more people to have their COVID-19 vaccine across the County from this weekend.

Walk-ins clinics are taking place at hospitals in Brighton, Chichester, Eastbourne, and Worthing as part of a further push to get people vaccinated.

Anyone who needs a first, second or booster dose of a Covid vaccine can turn up without an appointment at these dedicated clinics taking place this week.

It is part of the Sussex ‘Week of Walk-ins’ with more than 40 clinics taking place across communities this weekend and into next week.

Running from 11am to 4pm each day until Tuesday 18 January, the clinics on the hospital sites are a collaboration between University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex), East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, and the vaccination providers – IPC, HERE, SDHC GP Federations and the Hastings PCN – who are running the services.

It has already provided so successful that the services at Royal Sussex County, St Richards and Worthing Hospitals will continue until 3rd February.

Dr Charlotte Hopkins, Chief Medical Officer at UHSussex said:

“We know vaccination is the best way of keeping ourselves, our patients, our loved ones and our colleagues safe from getting severely ill with Covid. We also know that finding the time to get vaccinated isn’t always as easy as it sounds.

“These walk in vaccination clinics provide the perfect opportunity for people across Sussex to turn up when it suits them and get their first, second or booster vaccines.

“I’m very grateful to the teams who are making this possible and to everyone who makes the decision to get vaccinated. Increasing the vaccination rate across Sussex will help us avoid hospital admissions due to Covid and reduce pressure on our services, helping us make sure we can provide the care people need, when they need it.”

The programme continues to focus on ensuring that people across our communities can receieve their first, second and booster vaccinations. To date, 83% of adults across East and West Sussex and Brighton and Hove have had their booster dose of a Covid vaccine.
