The Rotary Club of Bognor Regis has long recognised that over a third of families in the area live in poverty

They told V2 Radio "at the beginning of the pandemic, we discovered that many local young children were going hungry because their low-income parents had suddenly been furloughed or lost their jobs.

"We were especially concerned at the plight of families that, for a variety of reasons, failed to qualify for the government’s free school meals and subsequent £15 a week food voucher scheme.

"In March 2020 we began working closely with local primary schools to support these families and their children, by providing them each week with a £15 Tesco voucher per child."

Using grants from Rotary, the National Lottery Community Fund and generous donations from the public, we have so far provided over £34.000.

They are now calling for help as The Rotary Club have not been able to fundraise as they usually do, due to coronavirus restrictions.

They said: "We have set up our Square Meal Project to raise funds and public awareness, our first campaign is to raise £2000 over two weeks to feed these children for the two weeks of the Easter holiday."
