A dramatic tornado swept through Aldershot on Friday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake
Captured on a ring doorbell camera, the footage reveals the sudden ferocity of the storm.
Rushmoor Borough Council say it struck at around midday on Cadnam Close, damaging buildings and tearing down trees. Other properties on nearby roads were also hit.
Earlier in the day the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO) issued a warning for parts of the UK including Hampshire, highlighting the severity of the conditions.
Paul Knightley, head of TORRO, has since confirmed that the extreme weather event was indeed a tornado, explaining their formation involves complex atmospheric conditions, including rotation in the lower atmosphere, intensified by strong updrafts in thunderstorms.
in Havant, the storm caused extensive power outages in Waterlooville, leaving over 500 properties without electricity for several hours after power lines were damaged.
Across Hampshire and Sussex, people took to social media to share images and videos of the violent winds, torrential rain, and large hailstones that abruptly ended the recent warm weather.
Yellow weather warnings for rain and thunderstorms across parts of Hampshire and Sussex remain in place until midnight Sunday. Forecasters are warning of further disruptions, with potential flooding and travel delays due to heavy rain, hail, and lightning.
