Chichester BID has announced this year’s Light Up Chichester local heroes.
They are 77-year-old Wendy Wheelan, a long-serving volunteer marshall at the city’s Junior Parkrun, and 7-year-old Samuel Bezants, whose bravery during cancer treatment has inspired the community.
Wendy and Samuel will switch on Chichester’s Christmas lights at 5pm on Saturday 22 November.
This year’s Light Up Chichester competition received more than 35 nominations for individuals who have made a positive impact in the community. The winners were chosen by a judging panel made up of The Mayor of Chichester, Councillor Sean McHale, Chair of Chichester BID, Helen Marshall, CEO of Chichester BID, Natasha McLeod and Nicola Brown from Sussex law firm Mayo Wynne Baxter, who are supporting this year’s Christmas in Chichester festivities.
Helen Marshall, Chair of Chichester BID, said: “Each year, the local hero competition reveals the incredible kindness, courage and community spirit that makes Chichester such a special place. Wendy and Samuel truly embody those values, and we’re thrilled to have them light up the city this Christmas.”
