Vigils for Sarah Everard called off

It was meant to take place alongside the 6pm vigil in Clapham Common in South London

A vigil to honour Sarah Everard, the 33 year old woman who was found murdered in woodlands in Kent, has been called off.

Sussex Police put out a warning this morning asking residents not to join public vigils this morning to avoid the risk of spreading coronavirus.

48 year old Wayne Couzens was last night arrested and charged with Everards murder and kidnapping. He was sent to Westminster Magistrates Court and has now been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on the 16th March,

Couzens only spoke in his court appearance this morning to confirm his name and address.

Women's Rights groups across Sussex had planned vigils in memory of Sarah Everard this evening, but organisers have cancelled all official vigils and asked people to stay home. Other types of digital vigil are being planned to commemorate her instead.
