More money to get West Sussex active

West Sussex county council is being given £2.3 million to help us to become more active and to encourage us to pick more "healthy" travel choices.

The County Council successfully secured the Department for Transport funding for permanent improvements in Phase 2 of the Active Travel Fund (ATF).

Now, five projects have been identified and a Summary Consultation Plan published for taking the proposals forward.

The authority say an essential part of this process will be ensuring local residents, businesses and wider stakeholders are appropriately consulted on the council’s plans for all of these schemes, which are to be delivered in the 2021/22 financial year.

The proposals include a permanent cycleway scheme for Shoreham costing around £250,000, a new cycle and foot path adjacent to the A24 between Findon Valley and Findon Village, costing around £1 million pounds, and a programme of 'school gate' travel improvements reducing the reliance on cars for the school run.

In total the plans will cost nearly £2 million pounds.
