Women in the South are ignoring signs of heart attack

Women in the South are overlooking life-threatening chest pain, often mistaking heart attack symptoms for indigestion or stress, delaying critical medical care.

Research shows that only 23% of women would seek emergency help at A&E, compared to 38% of men.  Nearly half (47%) admit to relying on rest and even indigestion medicine, compared to 32% of men.

A report by Healthspan also highlights that just 54% of women feel confident in recognising the signs of a heart attack.

The report said that many women also don’t realise that the odds are stacked against them when it comes to heart health and a range of conditions like PCOS, pregnancy complications, early menopause, and even autoimmune diseases all increase their cardiovascular risk.

If you think you are having a heart attack, always call 999 and get emergency help.
