Discover the story of the Arundel resident who was one of England’s most successful inn sign painters.

More Information (V2 Radio is not responsible for external websites)

Ralph Ellis’ inn sign painting career started in the 1920s and continued until his retirement in the 1950s, during which time he was commissioned by breweries across England and painted hundreds of inn signs for them. Whilst primarily known as an inn sign painter (as described on the blue plaque in Maltravers Street, Arundel), he was also a highly regarded portrait and landscape painter, and we want this exhibition to uncover new stories and inspire visitors as they learn about his work.

The exhibition will include a profile of Ralph Ellis, his life before and after the Great War, and the growth of his inn sign business - including the technical process for making the signs and the work he exhibited in national exhibitions. We will have lots of images of his local signs, as well as those from further afield.

Entry by Museum Ticket. Exhibition opens 1.30 on 15 March, thereafter 10.00am.
