Thirty years ago, a group of artists from the South Downs came together to share ideas, experiences and inspiration. They called themselves Artel, and the group continues to flourish today. They are delighted to return to Oxmarket Contemporary for their annual exhibition

This year’s exhibition gives each artist the freedom to explore an individual theme, resulting in a lively and varied collection of painting, sculpture, drawing, textiles, printmaking and mixed media.

Maureen Brigden – Ceramic sculptor creating expressive clay figures celebrating female friendship and connection.

Isabel Dodson – Painter inspired by the sounds, rhythms and atmosphere of landscapes where land meets sea.

Polly Dutton – Painter exploring clouds, light and the changing beauty and fragility of the natural world.

Sue England – Painter inspired by 17th-century Dutch flower paintings and their symbolism of beauty and transience.

Liz Hanan – Ceramic artist creating sculptural installations that explore resilience, strength and human experience.

Jackie Knee – Artist working with drawing and Tetra Pak printmaking to explore ideas of home and imagined spaces.

Linda Nevill – Mixed-media artist combining ink, collage, drawing and stitch to create layered, meditative tree forms.

Deborah Mitchelson – Painter exploring the relationship between reality and imagination, encouraging viewers to question perception.

Lorraine Molins – Painter creating large-scale landscape works inspired by journeys, viewpoints and the changing seasons.

Carol Naylor – Textile artist using colourful silken threads and machine stitching to create landscapes and skies.

Deborah Richards – Artist creating unique monotypes using oil, acrylic and graphite, inspired by pools and woodland landscapes.

Tiffany Robinson – Painter and sculptor working with found wood, inspired by the interconnectedness and mystery of woodland.

Martin V Smith – Abstract painter working with hand-manipulated materials to explore perception, scale and the nature of abstraction.

Helen Solly – Contemporary sculptor working in stainless steel, also creating photographic images from the surfaces of her sculptures.

Bridget Woods – Watercolour artist painting landscapes, people, seascapes and abstract subjects inspired by rhythm and energy.

Guest artist Christine Forbes – Artist transforming treasured colour-pencil drawings from the past into large-scale acrylic paintings.

Guest artist Terry Merritt – Stone sculptor whose work reflects patience, creativity and a deep respect for natural materials.

Together, the artists present an exhibition that celebrates individual creativity while reflecting the shared spirit of the Artel group.
