National Highways says its major refurbishment programme at the A27 Langstone Interchange remains on schedule as work prepares to move onto the westbound carriageway.
Work on the eastbound side has now been completed, including resurfacing, replacement bridge parapets and safety barriers, renewed waterproofing and the installation of new expansion joints.
Similar work is due to begin on the westbound carriageway this weekend during the first of two planned weekend closures.
National Highways says the programme has been carefully planned to reduce disruption to people travelling through the area.
Where possible, key stages are being carried out overnight when traffic levels are lower, as well as at weekends, with closures planned to avoid major events in the area.
Aron Clarke, Project Manager at National Highways, said: “These essential improvements will enhance safety, reduce noise for nearby residents and businesses, and extend the life of the bridges, helping to keep this vital link on the A27 safe and reliable for many years to come.”
Drivers planning to travel through the area are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
National Highways says this is particularly important because Hayling Island remains a popular destination for visitors and traffic can become busy around the interchange.
