Brighton and Hove Albion marked the club’s 125th anniversary in style with an impressive 3-0 Premier League victory over Arsenal at the Amex.
Fabian Hürzeler’s side took control of the contest with a confident attacking display, scoring twice before half-time before adding a third after the break.
Pascal Groß opened the scoring in the 31st minute, finding space inside the Arsenal penalty area before sending an effort in off the woodwork.
Brighton continued to cause problems for the visitors and came close to extending their lead when Yasin Ayari struck the frame of the goal.
A second arrived just before half-time.
Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen helped launch a quick Brighton attack before Charalampos Kostoulas found space outside the area and finished beyond Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
The Seagulls carried their momentum into the second half and made it 3-0 in the 57th minute.
Groß delivered a corner from the left and Chema Andrés rose to head home, scoring his first Premier League goal on his first league start.
Arsenal attempted to respond, but Brighton remained dangerous at the other end and continued creating chances.
Verbruggen also played his part in preserving the clean sheet, denying Kai Havertz as Arsenal searched for a route back into the match.
Substitute Matt O’Riley later went close to adding a fourth but was denied by Raya.
The victory ended Arsenal’s perfect start to their Premier League title defence, with the visitors having won their opening four league matches before arriving on the south coast.
Brighton moved onto 10 points from their opening five Premier League games following the result.
It was also another significant result in an excellent week for Albion, coming just days after their 3-2 Carabao Cup victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
With three goals, a clean sheet and victory over the reigning Premier League champions, Brighton gave supporters plenty to celebrate during the club’s 125th anniversary weekend.
