The Capitol theatre is due to be handed back to Horsham District Council is a couple of weeks following a multi-million pound refurbishment.
The news was shared by Anthony Frankland, cabinet member for wellbeing, culture & green spaces, during a meeting of the full council on Wednesday (October 7).
The theatre has been closed since January while contractor Willmott Dixon Interiors carried out extensive work on the site in North Street.
The work included new seating in the auditorium and cinema screens, new and improved toilets – including a Changing Places facility, a makeover of the bar area and box office, roof repairs, and replacing the heating and cooling system.
Mr Frankland said: “I have to say that the facilities we have there now are as good as I’ve seen anywhere.
“I’m really looking forward to the building being handed back to us in the next couple of weeks so that we can start to prepare for the opening events – specifically the panto – at the end of November.”
Mr Frankland said there had been a particular focus on accessibility and inclusion, to ensure that anyone could head to the theatre or cinema ‘with the confidence that any needs they might have can be accommodated’.
