Chichester District Council has awarded a further £20,000 to Arun and Chichester Citizens Advice to continue providing its Energy Advice Service.
The service was launched in September 2023 and has since supported more than 4,700 residents with advice on energy costs, benefits, debt and budgeting.
According to the council, more than £500,000 in financial gains have been secured for local people through energy savings, successful grant applications, benefits advice and income maximisation support.
The service has also provided emergency food or fuel vouchers to more than 500 residents and helped more than 1,000 people access support through the Household Support Fund.
Energy-related problems remain the most common reason people contact the service, although residents can also receive help with debt, welfare benefits, budgeting and other urgent financial concerns.
Around 400 clients have received specialist debt, benefit or budgeting advice since the scheme began.
The service is reviewed annually by the council to assess its outcomes and value for money.
Councillor Rhys Chant, Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing at Chichester District Council, said: "Many households across the district continue to feel the impact of rising living costs, with energy bills remaining a significant concern for many residents.
"By continuing to fund this service, we are ensuring people can access free, expert advice and practical support when they need it most. The results achieved so far demonstrate the real difference the service is making, helping residents secure financial support, reduce costs and improve their overall wellbeing.
"Without this provision, some of our most vulnerable residents could be left facing difficult choices between heating their homes and meeting other essential living costs. The Energy Advice Service plays a vital role in tackling fuel poverty and helping people access the support they need to remain financially secure."
