A 23-year-old man from Farnborough has been jailed for three years following a violent attack involving a knife and baseball bat which left a man in his 20s with serious injuries.
Billy-Roy Guilfoyle-Gregory, of Alison Close, Farnborough, was part of a group of men who attacked the victim in Ratcliffe Road on Tuesday 30 June.
The group had got out of a vehicle before launching the attack, during which the victim suffered stab wounds to his hands and back, along with a serious head injury.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since made a recovery.
Following an investigation by Hampshire Police, Guilfoyle-Gregory was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to three years in prison at Winchester Crown Court on Tuesday 6 October.
Detective Constable Sophie Crathern, from CID North, described the attack as shocking and warned that violent offences would not be tolerated.
She said: “This was a shocking incident which left the victim needing to be treated for serious injuries in hospital.
“Guilfoyle-Gregory’s actions that day were incredibly dangerous, and he will now spend a considerable amount of time behind bars for what he did.
“We will not tolerate violent offences on our streets and will do all we can to find those responsible and put them before the courts so they can face the full consequences for their actions.”
As part of the police investigation, five other men were arrested in connection with the incident.
However, officers have confirmed that all five have since been released and will face no further action.
