Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is encouraging people from all walks of life to consider becoming volunteer police officers as it prepares to hold a special recruitment event in Winchester.
The force is inviting members of the public to discover how their existing skills, experience and life perspectives could help support policing across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
A Special Constabulary Recruitment Event will take place on Saturday, 17 October, at The Stripe Building, University of Winchester, King Alfred Campus.
The event is aimed at people looking for a new challenge, wanting to give something back to their communities or hoping to develop valuable personal and professional skills.
The Special Constabulary is made up of volunteer police officers who work alongside regular officers to help keep communities safe.
Those who join receive comprehensive training and hold the same police powers as full-time officers.
The role also provides opportunities to develop communication, leadership, problem-solving and decision-making skills while gaining practical experience in policing.
Officers say the diversity of backgrounds and experiences brought by volunteers plays an important role in helping the force connect with the communities it serves.
Special Superintendent Russell Morrison said: "Many people don't realise that the skills they use every day, whether at work, at home or through hobbies and volunteering, could make them an excellent Special Constable.
"The Special Constabulary offers a unique opportunity to challenge yourself, learn new skills and support your community in a way that's rewarding and genuinely impactful. This event is a chance to find out more, meet the team and hear first hand what the role is really like. We welcome anyone who is curious to come along and explore whether becoming a Special Constable could be right for them."
The recruitment event will give potential volunteers an opportunity to meet members of the Special Constabulary, learn more about the responsibilities involved and discover what training and support are available.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary hopes the event will encourage people who may never have considered policing to explore how their existing abilities could make a positive difference.
The event takes place on Saturday, 17 October, at The Stripe Building on the University of Winchester's King Alfred Campus.
