Portsmouth City Council is asking residents, businesses, visitors and community groups for their views on the use of public barbecues and amplified music at some of the city’s most popular seafront spaces.
The consultation covers Canoe Lake, Southsea Common and Castle Field and is intended to gather feedback on how the areas are used, the benefits they provide and any concerns people may have experienced.
Questions include views on outdoor recreation, community use, litter, noise, the impact on wildlife and the management of designated barbecue areas.
The council says no decisions have been made and that the consultation will help inform future discussions about how the spaces should be managed.
Councillor Lee Hunt, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Leisure & Sport, said: “Portsmouth's seafront spaces are enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors throughout the year. We know people have a wide range of views about public BBQs and amplified music, and we want to better understand those views before considering any future approach.
“This consultation is about listening. No decisions have been made and we are keen to hear from people who use these spaces regularly, as well as those who live nearby, work nearby or visit occasionally.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in these areas to take a few minutes to complete the survey and help shape future discussions.”
The consultation also asks people about the benefits barbecues can bring to public spaces, any problems they have experienced and possible measures that could be considered in future.
