Henry Powell has been appointed as the new independent Chair of the West Sussex Economic Growth Board.
The board brings together representatives from business, local authorities and education to provide strategic leadership on economic issues affecting the county.
It also supports the delivery of the West Sussex Economic Strategy and aims to ensure the views of businesses are reflected in decisions around investment and economic development.
Mr Powell’s appointment comes as new regional arrangements are being developed following the creation of the Sussex & Brighton Strategic Authority.
As Chair of the West Sussex Economic Growth Board, he will also sit on the Strategic Authority’s Business Advisory Board, where he will help represent West Sussex’s economic priorities.
Mr Powell has more than three decades of experience in business leadership.
He is Commercial Director of Sharpak Healthcare and Inpress Precision, businesses he co-acquired in 2011, and has overseen growth through acquisitions and expansion.
He previously served as Chair of the Coastal West Sussex Partnership between 2018 and 2023, working with public and private sector organisations to support investment, skills development and business growth.
Mr Powell has also worked with HM Prison and Probation Service on an employment programme which has helped more than 135 offenders into work.
