Chichester MP Jess Brown-Fuller is set to play a prominent role when the Liberal Democrats hold their autumn conference in Brighton later this month.
The four-day gathering will take place at the Brighton Centre from 19 to 22 September, bringing party members together for policy debates, votes, question-and-answer sessions, speeches, training and fringe events.
As the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for justice, Ms Brown-Fuller is due to move two major motions in the main auditorium.
On Saturday 19 September, she will open a debate titled Fixing Family Courts. The proposals include completing the national rollout of Pathfinder Courts, improving specialist domestic-abuse training for professionals and establishing a statutory regulator for therapists working in family proceedings.
The motion argues that delays, limited resources and the failure to implement earlier recommendations have left children and families without the support they need.
Ms Brown-Fuller will also move a motion on Monday 21 September calling for comprehensive legislation against Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation, commonly known as SLAPPs.
These legal actions can be used to intimidate journalists, whistleblowers and campaigners or prevent them from publishing information in the public interest. The proposals include faster dismissal of abusive cases, stronger cost protection for defendants and financial penalties for those bringing improper claims.
The Chichester MP will also chair a debate on stopping violence against women and girls. She is listed for supporting roles during sessions dealing with the maternity crisis, defending democracy, primary healthcare and illegal e-bikes.
Other issues scheduled for debate include rural and coastal education, temporary accommodation, food security, artificial intelligence and the future regulation of water companies.
Party members attending as voting delegates can speak and vote on motions, with decisions made at the conference helping to set Liberal Democrat policy and shape the party’s future election platform.
Leader Sir Ed Davey will take questions from members on Sunday afternoon before delivering the closing speech on Tuesday.
The conference will also include a Saturday evening rally and a programme of meetings involving campaigners, charities, businesses and policy specialists.
