Six projects with a total cost of up to £4.4m have been proposed in Chichester District Council’s draft Infrastructure Business Plan 2027-32.

The Plan details what infrastructure work is needed to support the Local Plan 2021-2039 and how much Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) money – a fee charged by local councils on new building projects – will be used for each.

It was discussed during a meeting of the cabinet on Tuesday (September 1).

The new projects are:

  • £50,000 for a feasibility study for a proposed signalised crossing at the junction of St Paul’s Road and Sherborne Road, Chichester;
  • £500,000 for a multi-sports facility at Selsey Academy, for the use of students and the wider community;
  • £997,000 for the redevelopment of the White Pavilion, in Priory Park;
  • £2.4m for the Avenue de Chartres public realm and active travel scheme;
  • £556,000 to build a resilient nature network on Chichester’s coastal plain; and
  • £374,000 for an active travel path through Oaklands Park.

As well as the new projects, an extra £20.6m of CIL is requested for projects that are already part of the spending plan. Another £1.6m will be set aside for any essential projects that are not yet in the Plan.

The city, town and parish councils, along with neighbouring authorities such as the South Downs National Park Authority, will be invited to take part in a six-week consultation on the proposals between September 14 and October 30.

Adrian Moss, leader of the council, said: “In the last few years, the Infrastructure Business Plan has become something that’s really important to the district council and how we want to ensure certain infrastructure projects get moved forward. It’s been really important that we have that clear visibility.”
