Police appeal after 63-year-old man dies in A34 collision near Sutton Scotney

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a 63-year-old man died in a collision on the A34 near Sutton Scotney.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the crash happened on the southbound carriageway at around 8.20pm on Saturday 5 September.

A green Austin A35 and a black Mazda 6 Sport were involved.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the driver of the Austin, a 63-year-old man from Romsey, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

Police said the driver of the Mazda, a 21-year-old man from Tidworth in Wiltshire, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care / consideration while unfit through drugs.

He has since been released on bail until 6 December while the investigation continues.

Officers have released an image of the Austin A35, describing it as a rare and memorable vehicle, in the hope it may help jog the memories of people who saw it travelling before the collision.

Police particularly want to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage showing either the Austin or Mazda travelling on the A34 beforehand.
