More than three kilometres of water mains have been renewed across Hampshire and West Sussex in recent months as part of a major investment programme by Portsmouth Water.
The company has been working with contractor Cappagh to replace older sections of pipework in a bid to reduce leaks, bursts and disruption to customers.
The work forms part of Portsmouth Water’s wider £15 million investment programme, which will see 52 kilometres of water mains renewed across its supply area between 2025 and 2030.
The company says replacing ageing infrastructure will help improve the reliability of the network and reduce the likelihood of emergency repairs being needed.
Since the five-year programme began in 2025, Portsmouth Water says it has renewed 15 kilometres of water mains, meeting its target for this stage of the investment plan.
Bob Taylor, Chief Executive of Portsmouth Water, said: “This summer's work is a great example of the effort that goes into looking after the water network every day.
“Working with our partners at Cappagh, we've completed more than three kilometres of water mains renewals in recent months, helping to improve reliability and reduce the likelihood of leaks and bursts.
“We'd like to thank local communities for their patience and understanding while this work was carried out.”
Portsmouth Water says further improvements are planned across Hampshire and West Sussex in the coming months and years as work continues to modernise the network and improve long-term reliability for homes and businesses.
