A team of amateur runners will take on the Chichester Half Marathon next month to raise money for Chichester Cathedral.
More than 1,500 runners are expected to take part in the 13.1-mile event on Sunday, 4 October, with the route passing a number of city landmarks, including the Cathedral itself.
Chichester Cathedral is one of the official charity beneficiaries of this year’s event.
Team Cathedral has been training specifically for the race, with runners volunteering their time to raise funds and awareness for the Cathedral’s work.
Money raised will support the upkeep of the historic building, as well as its music, education and community programmes.
The Cathedral says it currently costs around £7,000 a day to maintain and, as an independent registered charity, it receives no regular funding from government or central Church sources.
Among those taking part is David Phizackerley, who said: “Running is a real passion of mine, and over the last few years I have completed several half marathons, including five of the six international SuperHalfs. I am looking forward to tackling the challenge of the Chichester Half Marathon, with its climb to The Trundle.
“It's great that Chichester Cathedral is an official charity partner of the Chichester Half Marathon this year. I often attend Holy Communion at the Cathedral, so I'm particularly pleased to be running as part of Team Cathedral to help raise funds for the Cathedral and the important work it does within the community.”
The event is expected to attract runners from across the area, with Team Cathedral hoping local support will help boost its fundraising total.

The Cathedral says every contribution will help support its work and preserve the building for future generations.
