A community event to help women feel safer and more connected is taking place in Bognor Regis.
Safer Steps starts at 7 pm at West Park Cafe, where participants will gather before taking part in a 5K walk, jog or run along the seafront.
Music will be played before the start by V2 Radio's Gary Booker and Steve Freeguard, followed by a short warm-up led by local running coach Mark Penfold.
Organisers are encouraging people to wear bright or reflective clothing, and where possible bring lights or glow sticks, to create a visible presence along the promenade.
The out-and-back route will also pass an area of the seafront where new lighting has recently been installed following a successful bid to the council.
Organisers say the improvement is significant because the area had previously been left in darkness and can now be used more safely by walkers, runners and other visitors.
After completing the 5K, participants will head to The Waverley, which is hosting the community part of the evening free of charge for the second year running.
Sussex Police, Lifecentre, My Sister’s House Women’s Centre and the Arun wellbeing team will be among the organisations attending.
Local gyms, fitness businesses and community groups will also be there to offer information and speak to residents.
Organisers say they want the evening to encourage honest conversations about where people feel safe, where they do not, and why.
They are particularly keen to hear from both men and women, saying community safety affects everyone.
The event is also intended to highlight local support services and give people who may feel isolated the chance to connect with groups and activities in the area.
Organisers say the 5K is only the starting point, with the wider aim of bringing people together, starting conversations and helping make the community feel safer and more connected.
