Six new on-call firefighters have joined West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service after completing an intensive two-week training course.
The recruits will now be based at stations across the county, including Arundel, Horsham, Bognor Regis and Shoreham.
On-call firefighters often have full-time jobs elsewhere but make themselves available to respond to emergency incidents within their local communities.
They generally live or work close to their fire station and can respond to calls from either home or their workplace.
The six recruits completed their initial training at Lancing Fire Station, where they were presented with certificates on Friday, 18 September.
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Area Manager for Service Delivery Ady Carter said: “Over the past two weeks, they have demonstrated real commitment, resilience and teamwork while completing an intensive training programme. They should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.
“I am delighted to welcome them to West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, where they will become a vital part of our service and respond to emergencies in their local communities.”
The new firefighters are Max Williams, who will be based at Arundel; James Benton at Horsham; Nathan Craig at Shoreham; and Edward Willis, Bartosz Sobieraj and Alexander Trouchkin, who will all serve from Bognor Regis.
Councillor Tracie Bangert, Cabinet Member for Community Support, Fire and Rescue, congratulated the new recruits.
She said: “Choosing to serve your community in this way is a remarkable commitment, and these recruits have shown great dedication in taking their first steps into the role.
“Our on-call crews make a significant contribution to keeping residents safe across West Sussex.”
The fire service is continuing to encourage people interested in becoming on-call firefighters to consider applying.
