Flights at London Gatwick and Southampton Airport are beginning to recover after NATS implemented a fix for a technical problem which caused widespread disruption across UK airports.
The air traffic control provider said its flight system was starting to recover after engineers worked to resolve the fault.
In its latest update, issued at 4.40pm, NATS said it had “implemented a fix” and was continuing to work with airlines and airports as services recovered. It also apologised for the disruption and advised passengers to continue checking the status of their flights with their airline.
Earlier in the afternoon, NATS confirmed the problem was within its flight processing system.
It said engineers were working urgently to restore normal operations and that, despite the disruption, UK airspace remained open and flights were still able to depart.
London Gatwick was among the airports affected, with passengers advised to check directly with their airlines for information about individual flights.
Southampton Airport also reported disruption, with operator AGS Airports warning that some services operating to and from the airport could experience delays.
NATS has not yet said that operations have returned completely to normal, and passengers travelling through Gatwick or Southampton this evening are still being advised to check their flight status before travelling to the airport.
The disruption began early on Tuesday afternoon, with NATS initially reporting at 1.46pm that engineers were investigating a technical issue affecting flight departures.
