Summer seasonal beach patrols have come to an end across Arun coastline
Arun District Council says its Beach Patrol team has completed another busy summer covering popular stretches of coastline used by thousands of residents and visitors.
The council says the prolonged warm and dry weather from May onwards brought large numbers of people to beaches, with patrol teams working through hot conditions to help keep people safe.
During the season, the team responded to a number of incidents and the council says their actions helped save lives and return people safely to their families.
The patrols also provided advice and a visible presence along the seafront throughout the summer.
Arun District Council thanked the team for its “hard work, dedication and commitment” during the season.
As the patrols finish, people are being reminded that coastal risks remain throughout autumn and winter.
Anyone who sees someone in trouble in or near the sea, or who finds themselves in difficulty, should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
The end of September also marks a change to seasonal beach restrictions.
From 1 October, dogs and horses are once again allowed in areas of Arun’s beaches where seasonal restrictions had been in place during the summer months.
Dog owners are being reminded to clean up after their pets and help keep beaches safe and enjoyable for other users.
The council says people should continue to take care when visiting the coast during the colder months, when changing weather, rougher seas and reduced daylight can create additional hazards.
