Residents across West Sussex are being invited to have their say on plans for new on-street electric vehicle chargepoints.
West Sussex County Council says the proposals are aimed particularly at people who do not have access to a driveway or garage and therefore cannot easily install a charger at home.
Under the plans, one dual-socket chargepoint would be installed at each proposed location, allowing two vehicles to charge at the same time.
Underground infrastructure would also be installed so that more chargepoints could be added in future as demand grows, reducing the need for further disruptive work at the same sites.
The council says there would be no changes to existing parking arrangements at this stage.
Current restrictions, including permit parking, disabled bays and pay-and-display requirements, would continue to apply. Any future changes to parking restrictions around electric vehicle bays would require a separate public Traffic Order consultation.
Councillor Erika Woodhurst-Trueman, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “We want to make it easier for residents to charge electric vehicles close to their homes, especially where people do not have off-road parking.
“These proposals are about putting chargepoints in locations that need them now, while also planning ahead for future demand. I encourage residents to take part in the consultation and tell us what they think of the proposed locations.”
Councillor Natasha Davie, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said reliable public charging would be important in helping more people feel confident about switching to electric vehicles.
She added that residents could also suggest possible locations for future chargepoints.
The West Sussex Public Chargepoint Network is being delivered in partnership with Connected Kerb through the Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Pilot Programme, with support from district and borough councils.
The consultation opened on 21 September and will run until 19 October 2026.
