Schoolchildren across Adur and Worthing are being encouraged to put their imaginations to the test and come up with some rather rubbish names for a fleet of new food waste collection trucks.
Adur & Worthing Councils have launched a competition inviting primary school pupils to name the vehicles, with children encouraged to be as creative, funny or downright silly as they like.
The winning names will be proudly displayed on the sides of the trucks as they travel around collecting food waste from homes across the area.
And there's an extra treat for the winners, who will be invited to have their photographs taken alongside the vehicles at a special presentation event.
A panel of judges will select eight winning names, along with runners-up for two additional trucks which will join the fleet at a later date.
The competition forms part of preparations for the councils' new weekly food waste collection services.
Councillor Andrew Harvey, Adur's Cabinet Member for Environment, said:
“We're really glad to be launching this fun competition with local schoolchildren, and I'm looking forward to reading all of your entries.”
Councillor Martin McCabe, Worthing's Cabinet Member for Environment, believes youngsters will have no shortage of amusing suggestions.
He said: “Children often come up with much more imaginative names for things than us adults, so I'm sure we will have no shortage of brilliant suggestions of what to name our new trucks.”
The councils are hoping the competition will encourage children to get involved with the new food waste collection service while having some fun along the way.
Whether the winning entries are clever puns, funny characters or something completely unexpected, the names will soon become a familiar sight on the streets of Adur and Worthing.
Parents and carers can help their children submit their suggestions using the councils' online entry form.
The deadline for entries is Monday 9 November 2026.
Children who fancy seeing their very own creation driving around their neighbourhood can enter through the competition form available on the Adur & Worthing Councils website.
So, if your child has a talent for coming up with funny names, this could be their chance to make their mark on Sussex's newest food waste trucks!
