A missing cat at the Cat & Rabbit Rescue Centre in Sidlesham has been safely recovered after a stressful few days for staff and volunteers.

The cat, named Chandra, had only just arrived at the charity when she escaped in the centre’s car park. She managed to get out of an unsecured carrier shortly after being brought into the rescue’s care, prompting immediate concern for her safety.

Staff quickly launched a search of the surrounding area and appealed to the public for help, sharing updates and asking residents to keep an eye out. Fears were raised that Chandra, who had already experienced a difficult period before arriving at the centre, could become frightened or injured if she strayed too far.

Fortunately, she remained close to the rescue site. Chandra was later spotted on the centre’s cameras, and staff were able to safely catch her using a humane trap, bringing the search to a successful conclusion.

Following her ordeal, the cat is now safe and beginning to settle into her new surroundings.

General Manager of The Cat & Rabbit Rescue Centre, Ian Hughes, said: “We are incredibly relieved to have Chandra safely back with us after everything she’s been through. She can now take the time she needs to recover, and we are looking forward to helping her find the loving home she deserves.”

Chandra will now undergo routine veterinary checks and be spayed before being made available for rehoming.

Founded in 1986, The Cat & Rabbit Rescue Centre works to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abandoned and unwanted cats, rabbits and guinea pigs across West Sussex and Hampshire. The charity receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations from the public to continue its work supporting vulnerable animals in the region.
