Plans have been submitted to redevelop the former House of Fraser building in Chichester city centre.
The proposal could transform the long-vacant site into a new mixed-use development featuring homes and commercial space.
The Cordage Group has put forward plans that would see 87 apartments created at the site, which has stood empty since the department store closed in 2019. The site, in a prominent location in the heart of the city, has remained unused for several years and has been the subject of ongoing discussion about its future.
Under the proposals, the redevelopment would deliver a mix of residential accommodation alongside commercial units.
If approved, the project would represent a significant redevelopment for one of Chichester’s most recognisable vacant buildings.
City centres across the country have seen former department store sites left empty in recent years as shopping habits have changed and major retail chains have closed or moved away from high streets.
The planning application will now be considered by the local authority.
