At the earliest possible opportunities, Oakwood School is embracing the benefits of the lifting of COVID restrictions allowing the school to return to a full programme of curriculum trips, inter-school sport and ever-popular residential trips.
Oakwood reintroduced day trips in April, while residential trips will take place in June following further easing of restrictions.
Headteacher Clare Bradbury told V2 Radio: “School trips provide inspirational learning experiences that bring classroom lessons to life without needing to travel far from school.
"Opportunities for safe hands-on activities and challenges help children grow in confidence, encourage independent thinking, and build co-operation and problem-solving skills.
"Oakwood pupils are curious and engaged with the community, and we are sure that trips encourage these traits.
“Day trips, such as excursions to our wonderful local beaches, help younger children feel more assured, while during residential trips, pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 push their own boundaries, develop greater independence and maturity as individuals, and learn the strengths of operating as a group.
"The support they show each other over a few days away really has a long-term positive impact on their relationships and is a crucial step in preparing children for their senior school education.”
A priority for the school this term as trips have started again is to support our local community, something the school is passionate about.
Claire also added: "We have already visited Butser Ancient Farm, West Wittering Beach and Hale Farm and look forward to residential trips to Cobnor Activities Centre and Lodge Hill in Pulborough, as well as adventuring a bit further away with our Year 6 to explore the Jurassic Coast around Bournemouth.
"The Chichester area offers an outstanding breadth of opportunity to bring the children’s learning to life.
"It’s wonderful to also know that as well as being of huge benefit to children, our day trips are supporting local educational centres.
"The past 18 months have taught us that it’s the little things we used to take for granted that are the most important – that sense of belonging and being part of the community.”
