Event to help farmers decrease environmental impact - and increase their bottom line

Together with NFU Sussex, South East Water is inviting you to an ‘on-farm’ meeting, aimed specifically at dairy farmers.

The Maize Growers Association and South East Water are hosting an event that explores the practical steps farm businesses can make to reduce their impact on the environment - whilst improving their revenue. At the event, there will be speakers from AHDB as well as a maize strip-till demonstration

Presentations will include:

Net zero

AHDB’s senior dairy technical manager, David Ball, will explain what the industry’s net zero targets mean for the UK dairy sector and will provide the latest advice on the role of genetics, nutrition, and soil health in reducing your farm’s carbon footprint.

Reducing fertiliser use

With fertiliser prices spiking, John Morgan from the Maize Growers Association will cover practical steps farmers can take to reduce their reliance on artificial fertilisers while growing productive maize crops.

Live maize strip-till demonstration

There will be the opportunity to watch a live maize strip-till demonstration and find out more about the pros and cons of establishing maize in this way, as well as other maize management techniques, such as undersowing with grass.

Host farmers, Chris and Peter Appleton, have been trialling a variety of management techniques since 2017, as part of an initiative funded by South East Water, and they will be available to answer any questions you might have.

Water company funding

South East Water will present on the important role of catchment management and the funding that you might be eligible for.
