A store manager has been inspired by his four legged friend to walk more than 17 miles to work whilst picking up litter on the way.
Jack Coles will be walking to work for wildlife on Friday [3 December] from Fareham to The Co-operative Food - Bosham in the hope that it will make a difference to the local wildlife.
But not satisfied just to rid the local wildlife of rubbish, the 27-year-old will also be raising money for the store's current local partner Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital.
Jack, who has worked at the Southern Co-op store in Delling Lane for two years, said: "I have recently got a new addition to the family - our dog called Stanley. So I have been trying to prepare for the walk by going out twice a day.
"During our walks, he is drawn to the litter on the ground which isn't good for him and can't be good for the wildlife so I will be doing my bit to pick up litter on my route.
"I've estimated that it will take about six hours and I will navigate between five other Southern Co-op convenience stores, depositing all collected public waste to be sent back to the appropriate recycling facilities."
All store waste is diverted from landfill with dry mixed items separated for recycling and food broken down to produce biogas and bio-fertiliser through anaerobic digestion.
Stores Jack will stop at on his route include The Co-operative Food stores in Portchester (White Hart Lane), Drayton (Havant Road), Havant (Middle Park Way), Emsworth (High Street), and Southbourne (Main Road).
Jack added: "The charity was nominated to be this year's local partner for the store so I know it is something close to their hearts. It's also something I care about so I want to try and do my bit to keep animals safe and rehabilitated."
Jack has already smashed his initial fundraising target of £100 and now hopes to raise even more for the local wildlife hospital.
Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital, based in Sidlesham, treats, rehabilitates and responsibly releases injured wildlife casualties and orphans.
