Local Age UK offering doorstep cream tea deliveries to isolated older people (and you!) this August

Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove has re-launched its cream tea campaign this Summer and is encouraging the public to donate one of its treat boxes to an isolated older person in the area

People can also choose to have a delivery themselves, or buy for local family and friends, knowing that each purchase raises vital funds for Age UK WSBH.

For a minimum donation of just £7.00 people can order the fundraising cream tea box, which includes two homemade scones, clotted cream, jam and sachets of tea and sugar, while helping the charity support older people as we emerge from the pandemic. Funds raised will go towards the charity’s support services, including emergency welfare and safety support and telephone befriending for those still feeling isolated and lonely following the latest lockdown.

Helen Rice, Chief Executive at Age UK WSBH said “We trialled our cream tea boxes last year and it worked so well, putting smiles on the faces of older people stuck at home and raising crucial funds at a time when we’re needed the most. Many older people have been alone throughout the pandemic, some have seen a decline in their physical or mental health during restrictions and many are still particularly vulnerable or frightened. Donating a box lets people know they haven’t been forgotten and is a thoughtful gift for a stranger or a friend. We’d love people to get on board with this and help us reach as many people as possible with a little treat to brighten their day.”

The cream teas are available to residents across West Sussex, Brighton & Hove and the full contents are:

  • 2 x classic homemade plain scones
  • 2 x pots of Rodda's Cornish Clotted Cream (28g)
  • 2 x jars of Tiptree Strawberry Conserve (28g)
  • 2 x individually wrapped teabags and sugar sachets
  • Knife and serviette
