A series of community-focused improvements at Marina Gardens in Littlehampton has been completed, aimed at making the space more accessible, welcoming and environmentally friendly.
The upgrades have been funded through Section 106 contributions, which allow councils to work with developers to deliver improvements for local communities.
Arun District Council says the enhancements are designed to benefit both residents and visitors, while also supporting local biodiversity.
Among the key additions are two new wheelchair-accessible picnic tables, helping to ensure the gardens can be enjoyed by everyone. Five historic Southampton-style benches have also been refurbished, preserving their character while improving comfort and usability.
New planting has been introduced, including two landscaped borders designed to complement the nearby West Green project, along with a handcrafted wooden planter to provide seasonal colour.
The gardens have also been enhanced with a mini-beast hotel, aimed at encouraging wildlife and supporting environmental education for schools and families.
In addition, five new sensory totem posts have been installed, offering interactive features to enhance the experience for visitors of all ages.
The council says the improvements reflect a continued commitment to investing in public spaces and creating inclusive, sustainable environments for the community.
Councillor Amanda Worne, Chair of the Environment Committee at Arun District Council, said:
“These improvements show exactly how S106 funding can make a real difference to our communities. By enhancing accessibility, adding new planting, supporting local wildlife and creating inviting spaces for all ages, we're investing in a greener, more inclusive environment for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
